Organic Chemistry and introduction
What do you think at first about organic chemistry? Imagine that actually we are made up, built and operated with the help of organic compounds. When we see something, we absorp light, the retinal, which is organic compound, works by converting light into nerve impulses. These nerve impulses are sent to our brain cells with the help neuro transmitter amine (organic compounds) which build bridges between brain cells so that the impulses can walk through, and be translated. Amazingly, these are automatic, and somehow there is no one will ever know the exact mechanisms how these procedures are always repeating and repeating to make work our human function.
Some people always connect organic chemistry to something unethics, unnatural because because of this subject, we are able to make and create new molecules such as plastics, new dye to color clothes, perfume fragrance, taken from another molecule. However, I do not see strong reason that we should notice seriously about this opinion. It is because all of knowledges are basically can be made positively for the sake of human kinds.
The keywords to describe organic chemistry are: chemistry life and carbon elements. People was always thought that the chemistry of life was quite different with chemistry in the lab, then it became the chemistry about carbon compounds. And now, it is both of them are concerned, carbon and elements in any living things are covered inside organic chemistry.
In the earlier times, those organic compounds were ‘essential oils’ distilled from plants, the alkaloids extracted from crushed plants, and a flavouring compound menthol from the extracted essential oils from spearmint. At 19th century, coal became a star, when it produces gas for lighting and heating by distillation of coal. It gave brown tar rich and aromatic compounds such as aniline, phenol, benzene and pyridine as well. Since the presence of phenol for antiseptic in surgery and aniline as the basis of dyestuff industry, the journey of organic chemistry begun when people started to create new molecules. After oil overtook the function of coal, chemists tried to find and create more new molecules from alternatives such as fungi and bacteria.
Organic compounds may be in forms waxes, plastics, mobile, gas, liquid, but they may be recognized by their color or smells.
